Importance of Frame
How Important is the Frame?
Frames for portable hyperbaric chambers are designed with a two-fold purpose. First, they help facilitate entry into the chamber unassisted. Without a frame the individual has to hold the weight of the upper portion of the chamber (15-20 lbs) while entering the unit. In addition, once in the unit, the patient does not have the chamber collapsed on their body until it begins inflating. Second, the frame cuts down the time between inflation and pressurization. Without a frame it will take as many as 10 minutes to inflate a Grand Dive and 5 minutes to inflate a dive. With a frame, the Grand Dive is fully inflated and begins pressurizing in about 90 seconds; only about 60 seconds for the Dive.
Note: The frame has no effect on the rate of pressurization. This is controlled by the size of the compressor and whether relief valves are open or closed. In addition, the frame does not contribute to the strength of the chamber (meaning that a chamber is no better suited for a deeper pressure with or without a frame). Personally, I have always used frames with portable chambers regardless of the manufacturer. It just makes sense!
