Size of the Shallow Dive
How Big is the Shallow Dive?
The Shallow Dive is 23" in Diameter by 7' in length. This chamber is suitable for a single person, and a single person only.
To determine if this chamber is a good fit for you, I recommend lying on the ground with your back against the ground. Next, bring either of your legs to a 90 degree position (so that your upper leg is perpendicular to the ground). Using a tape measure or yard stick, measure the distance from the floor to the tip of your knee. If this measurement is less than 22" you will not be able to bring your knee to your chest when the chamber is inflated and pressurized. The lower the number, the more mobility you have to move about inside the unit. If you measure greater than this number, each inch will contribute to less mobility. If you are okay to simply lie on your back for an hour, discard everything I have said. But if you would like to be able to lie on your side and curl your legs in... Greatly consider what I have said!
If you are planning to lie on your back, consider once again that the chamber diameter is 23" (which means it is 23" across the center and from top to bottom. This means that although you will have about a foot of space above your head when pressurized, your shoulder will not lie flat as they would if you were lying in bed. The wider your shoulders, the more severe they are pushed towards your chest as the chamber inflates and pressurizes.
Special note: 1.3 ATA is 1.3 ATA whether you are comfortable or not! Financially these units are an excellent decision, you just need to determine how much comfort is worth.
Personal note: My first chamber was a Solace 210 from OxyHealth, this chamber is 21" in diameter (less than the Shallow Dive). I used this chamber for two years before purchasing a Respiro 270 (my second chamber) and selling my Solace used. I'm 6' 2" around 185 lbs, like I said, I used this small chamber for about two years. In the beginning I was so excited just to have a chamber that the size wasn't a factor. Plus, I had no frame of reference in regards to what a larger unit was like. As time passed by and the novelty wore off, the effort to squeeze into this smaller unit became a deterrent to my daily usage and continued therapy, hence the purchase of the larger unit.
